He notes it requires the removal of restrictions on real estate agents who wished to help people by merely listing the property and not providing a full range of services. "We are already seeing very positive signs of change in the marketplace. Real estate agents now have the fl exibility to provide innovative service and pricing options to consumers, and consumers are able to choose just what services they want from an agent when selling their home and to pay for only those services." Scott points out that the agreement doesn't specifi cally refer to people who aren't mem- bers of the real estate industry. "We always acknowledged that MLS was a proprietary system. It was developed and had sig- nifi cant resources put into it by the real estate industry. It was never an issue that Realtors were to be the ones to list the properties." Although that does restrict lawyers from reaching a wider customer base if they can't fi nd a co-operative agent, it's still possible to do well from a legal web site. "Compared to a cham- bers application, it's too easy, and there's absolutely no ques- tion that we are making more money," says Jones, who notes he enjoys going out and show- ing the homes for his clients. Forcier, meanwhile, is calling on other lawyers to get involved as well. "All I've heard is that lawyers can't make any money from real estate when there is an appetite amongst Canadians to try an alternative. Th is way, you get to spend some time with your clients and collect a profes- sional fee. It's a golden opportu- nity to build up your business and have fun." It's what's inside that counts!
