Loretta Merritt was presented with a Queen Elizabeth II
Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of her contributions to the
community in representing abuse survivors.
Neil Abramson was certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada
as a specialist in civil litigation. This makes Neil the only lawyer in
Ontario engaged in private practise who is double-certified by the
Law Society as a specialist in both civil litigation and health law.
Sandra Astolfo became a certified specialist in Construction Law
by the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Lisa Corrente has been elected as the Secretary-Treasurer of the
National Health Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association.
Lisa R. Lifshitz was selected to appear in Who's Who Legal:
Canada 2012 and The International Who's Who of Internet
e-Commerce & Data Protection Lawyers 2012 as one of the leading
Internet, e-Commerce & Data Protection lawyers. Lisa co-authored
a chapter on "Internet Law in Canada" in the American Bar
Association's book Internet Law for the Business Lawyer, published
August 2012.
Laurie Pawlitza spoke at the Federation of Law Societies
Conference in Vancouver in September and at the International Bar
Association Conference in Dublin, Ireland on October 4.
Peter Straszynski presented "Social Media in the Workplace" at
the HRPA Annual Conference and Trade Show on February 3.
Lorne Wolfson presented a paper to the National Judicial
Institute on February 8. Lorne also published an article in the
February 17 edition of The Lawyers Weekly. In addition, Lorne
presented in the Osgoode Professional Development program on
April 3 and the National Family Law Program on July 18.
Lisa Corrente and Marco Falco were voted onto the Board of
Directors of the Canadian Italian Advocates Organization ("CIAO").
Michael Hanley gave a presentation to the Institute of Law
Clerks of Ontario entitled "Don't Drop the Ball - How Small
Mistakes Can Turn Into Big Problems" on March 7.
Howard Burshtein addressed the Hospitalist Resident of
Sunnybrook Hospital on March 29, providing them with an overview
of Hospital-Physician contracts.
David Golden and Lisa Corrente spoke at the Together We
Care convention hosted annually by the Ontario Long-Term Care
Association and the Ontario Retirement Communities Association.
Zoe Kalmanson and Aaron English co-chaired "The Keys to the
Successful Purchase of a Multi-Tenant Commercial Property", a
half-day program on May 9 hosted by the Ontario Bar Association.
David Chaiton has been appointed as a member of the Executive
of the Insolvency Law sub-section of the Ontario Bar Association.
David also has been appointed to the Executive of the Business Law
sub-section of the OBA and as editor of the sub-section newsletter.
Sudevi Mukherjee-Gothi and Sonu Dhanju-Dhillon represented
Torkin Manes LLP at a dinner for a delegation from The Government
of Gujarat, India.
Risa Awerbuck spoke at Advising Families with Special Needs on
September 10.
Linda Godel spoke on the pending Ontario Not-for-Profit
Corporations Act at the annual conference of the Ontario Nonprofit
Network, Policy to Practice on September 27. Linda also partnered
with Base Consulting and Management Inc. to present "How
will the New Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act Affect your
Governance?" on October 23.
Ken Beallor presented "Unique Leasing Considerations for
Franchisors and Franchisees" at the 2012 International Counsel of
Shopping Centres Law Conference October 27 in Orlando, Florida.
Lisa R. Lifshitz will be the Course Chair and will be speaking
with cloud computing industry experts at LEXPERT's second annual
"Cloud Computing: A Practical Approach" seminar on December 3.
Violet French, Peter Straszynski and Tanisha Tulloch from Torkin
Manes will also be participating. Lisa will also be speaking at the
Federated Press' 7th Internet Law Course on "Online Privacy and
Security" on December 12.
